Global Trainne Programme

Biology & Health Sciences

Externships, Projects, Tutoring in Biology & Health Sciences
Project Title
Science of Disease Biology - Clinical Practice, Diagnosis and Therapy Development
Learning Outcome
The participants will learn the following through this project :
  • Participants will be able to understand the prevalence of genetic diseases and the detection method.
  • Special emphasis about pandemic outbreaks will be discussed to keep the participants Know about the pandemic rise and fall.
  • Participants will be able to assess the significance of cancer occurrence and their role in metabolism and metabolic homeostasis.
  • Participants will be able to analyse the role of genes and their interplay in syndromes and cancer.
  • Participants will be able to know about the therapy available for disease management.
Career Impact of this Project
This project will help enhance the employability of participants in the following ways:
  • Graduate students who undertake this course can take up any openings in health care system.
  • Post graduate and research students can take up research openings and develop proposals for research project openings advertised by scientific agencies.
  • Attendees who understand the basics of the course will be able to apply for scientific coding jobs, Medical description jobs, diagnostic jobs that contribute for self employability.
What will be covered in 8 weeks during the project

Week 1

Over all possibilities and opportunities for self-employability in Life sciences. Discussion will focus on the principles of diagnostic kits and the overall mechanism of transmission cycle

Week 2

Awareness on rapid diagnostic kits/assays on disease diagnosis- Lectures and discussions will be towards the need for developing rapid detection kits. Developing assays through cell culture practices.

Week 3

Genetic diseases Module will be about the prevalence of genetic diseases and the detection method. Consequences of Genetic diseases will be discussed with case studies

Week 4

Communicable diseases - Module will be about the prevalence of communicable diseases and the available detection method and the precautionary measures to be taken will be discussed. Special emphasis about pandemic outbreaks will be discussed

Week 5

Cancer and Homeostasis - Module will explain the significance of cancer and their role in metabolism and metabolic homeostasis. Molecular mechanisms and signalling pathways will be dealt in a basic way with the help of diagrams and flowcharts.

Week 6

Genes and their interplay in syndromes and cancer - This module will discuss the expression pattern of genes

Week 7

Therapy for Disease Management - This module will discuss the basics of therapy available for treating genetic and communicable diseases

Week 8

Stem Cell Therapy and Future Possibilities - This module will discuss the promise of stem cell therapy and their applications in disease management
Prerequisites for admission to this project
